If freelance journalists provide input to newsrooms , the question is always: Can I re-use the post also elsewhere with other clients with a different target audience? The question of which rights are established with reference to a journalistic work/contribution is regulated by intellectual property right /copyright law. Therefore, knowledge of the correct use of authors’ rights/copyright not only at national level but worldwide is crucial for freelance writers.

Freelance journalist Mike Holderness works in London and is a long time activist in the National Union of Journalists (NUJ). In addition, he is the chair of the EFJ Authors’ Rights Expert Group and participates on their behalf at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and European (EU) meetings on authors’ rights.

In an webinar organised by the European Federation of Journalists’ Freelance expert group (FREG) in cooperation with the Authors’ rights expert group (AREG) and the DJV (German union of journalists), Mike Holderness will speak on very practical issues regarding the function and application of authors’ rights/copyright in the daily business of freelance journalists.

The aim of the webinar organised on Feb 10, 2016 at 12:00 PM GMT is the better use of their own intellectual property rights also in international traffic.

The speaker will give a lecture in English. Good English language skills are essential to participate!

This webinar is open only for EFJ-IFJ members (journalists unions and professional associations).

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
