Andreas K. Bittner (Germany), political economist, freelance journalist and author, former board member and Honorary Treasurer of Deutscher Journalisten-Verband (DJV). Since the days of the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull (April 2010) Honorary Treasurer of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) – co-founder and driving force behind the independent Association internationale sans but lucratif (Aisbl).
Author of two international studies for the EFJ:
- “Managing Change – Innovation and Trade Unionism in the News Industry” (2011/12)
- and “Confronting Austerity. Financial and Employment Models in Journalism” (2014).
Andreas is focusing on digitization, digital media, crowd funding and larger financial issues in the “real” and virtual world; interested in all European topics, trying to promote accessibility and supporting Borussia Dortmund.
In my last term as Steering Committee member I would – again – volunteer as Honorary Treasurer – with the aim of further consolidating and expanding the financial space and sustainability of the EFJ. Based on the excellent and trustful working relations established with colleagues from EFJ and IFJ.
My second ambition is to deepen and promote digital forms of collaboration between elected officers, secretariat and affiliates in order to have a more regular and cost effective dialogue between all European colleagues. After a continuous expansion of the EFJ in the past three years I believe that we should deepen the mutual solidarity links and assist in the process of capacity building and unionization.
Thirdly I am interested to add force to lobby activities in Brussels and Straßbourg (and Berlin) regarding issues as data retention, protection of sources and authors’ rights.
