A public discussion on “muslims in the media: challenging narratives, strengthening partnerships, engaging communities” will take place at the European Parliament on the 30th of May.
Following their international commitments the states should be working in close co-operation with civil society on developing measures which do not endanger freedom of information and expression, but that counter hate speech and biased coverage of communities targeted by racism, discrimination and intolerance. This public discussion brings together members of European parliament, media professionals, researchers, Muslim community representatives and other interested parties to analyse and discuss the coverage, portrayal and participation of Muslims in the media, including gender and ethnic diversity. The panelists will not only present recent data on the coverage of Muslims in the media but will also discuss best practices and creative ways to strengthen partnerships among the relevant stakeholders.
