{"id":1396,"date":"2014-12-01T16:15:42","date_gmt":"2014-12-01T15:15:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/europeanjournalists.org\/?p=1396"},"modified":"2014-12-01T16:15:42","modified_gmt":"2014-12-01T15:15:42","slug":"efj-joins-international-press-freedom-mission-to-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/europeanjournalists.org\/de\/2014\/12\/01\/efj-joins-international-press-freedom-mission-to-spain\/","title":{"rendered":"EFJ Joins International Press Freedom Mission to Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(1.12.2014) &#8211; English \/\u00a0Fran\u00e7ais (en dessous)\u00a0&#8211; The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) has taken part in a three-day international mission on press freedom in Spain from 1 to 3 December,\u00a0carried out by six international media freedom organisations including the EFJ, the International Press Institute (IPI), Access Info Europe, Open Society Foundation (OSF), Reporters without Borders (RSF) and the World Association of Newspaper Publishers (WAN-IFRA).<\/p>\n<p>The Mission is the first in its kind to find out the state of press freedom in Spain with media visits in Madrid and Barcelona in the wake of austerity crisis.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8222;Like other countries in southern Europe that are affected by the austerity policies, Spain\u2019s media freedom is facing a dangerous decline,\u201d says Ricardo Guti\u00e9rrez, the EFJ General Secretary. \u201cIt is our duty to carry out such a mission and draw conclusions for other countries.&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As Spain fail to implement a transparency law, the mission will seek to identify the challenge facing Spanish journalists in accessing public documents.\u00a0 The mission also aims to find out the impact of defamation law on journalism and media freedom.<\/p>\n<p>The mission will explore ways to strengthen the independence of the Spanish public television which is hit hard by the austerity policies, both at national and regional levels.<\/p>\n<p>A series of meetings will take place with the press, civil society organisations and some representatives of the government and the public institutions. The EFJ, represented by Paco Audije, Spanish member of the EFJ Steering Committee of will also meeting with the EFJ Spanish affiliates during the mission.<\/p>\n<p>Partners of the mission will draw up an action plan on the situation of freedom of expression and freedom of the press in Spain.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>La FEJ d\u00e9fend la libert\u00e9 de la presse en Espagne<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La F\u00e9d\u00e9ration europ\u00e9enne des journalistes (FEJ) participe, du 1er au 3 d\u00e9cembre, \u00e0 Madrid et \u00e0 Barcelone, \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re mission internationale sur la libert\u00e9 de la presse en Espagne. L&#8217;op\u00e9ration est men\u00e9e par six organisations: la FEJ, l&#8217;International Press Institute (IPI), Access Info Europe, Open Society Foundation (OSF), Reporters sans Fronti\u00e8res et l&#8217;Association mondiale des \u00e9diteurs de journaux (WAN-Ifra).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8222;A l&#8217;instar d&#8217;autres pays du sud de l&#8217;Europe frapp\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re aveugle par les politiques d&#8217;aust\u00e9rit\u00e9, l&#8217;Espagne enregistre un dangereux recul de la libert\u00e9 de la presse et de la libert\u00e9 d&#8217;expression, commente Ricardo Guti\u00e9rrez, secr\u00e9taire g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la FEJ. Il \u00e9tait de notre devoir de participer \u00e0 cette mission et d&#8217;en tirer des conclusions utiles pour d&#8217;autres pays&#8220;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Alors que l&#8217;Espagne s&#8217;appr\u00eate \u00e0 mettre en oeuvre une loi &#8222;de transparence&#8220; tardive et imparfaite, la mission s&#8217;attachera \u00e0 v\u00e9rifier les difficult\u00e9s qu&#8217;\u00e9prouvent les journalistes espagnols \u00e0 acc\u00e9der aux documents publics. Autre pr\u00e9occupation de la mission: l&#8217;impact sur le journalisme d&#8217;une l\u00e9gislation sur la diffamation particuli\u00e8rement restrictive.<\/p>\n<p>La mission explorera \u00e9galement les moyens susceptibles de renforcer l&#8217;ind\u00e9pendance de l&#8217;audiovisuel public espagnol, frapp\u00e9 de plein fouet par les politiques d&#8217;aust\u00e9rit\u00e9, tant au niveau national que r\u00e9gional.<\/p>\n<p>Des rencontres sont pr\u00e9vues avec la presse, des organisations de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 civile et des repr\u00e9sentants du gouvernement et des institutions publiques.
