CoE Ministerial Conference on Artificial intelligence

May 28, 2020 @ 9:00 am - May 29, 2020 @ 1:00 pm

The Council of Europe, in cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus, is preparing a Conference of Ministers Responsible for Media and Information Society on ‘Artificial intelligence – Intelligent politics: Challenges and opportunities for media and democracy’ (28-29 May 2020, Nicosia, Cyprus).

This Ministerial Conference will address the following main subjects: impacts of AI-powered technologies on freedom of expression; challenges stemming from the changing media and information environment; and safety of journalists. The programme of the event will be made available on the Conference website soon.

It is intended that the Conference will lead to adoption of a final declaration and three resolutions on the subjects discussed. These documents will secure political engagement on a number of priority actions and will set the Council of Europe’s agenda in the area of freedom of expression for the years to come.

The conference will also provide a unique opportunity for dialogue between Ministers Responsible for Media and Information Society in the Council of Europe member states and a range of stakeholders, including academia, civil society, tech and business community.

The EFJ GS has been invited to speak on one of the Conference panels.
