The Norwegian Freelance Journalist Union (NJ Frilans) is hosting the Nordic Freelance Seminar this year. The participants will be freelance journalists from the Nordic countries. The aim of the seminar is further training, to inspire each other and share experience, learn more about our profession and current topics, develop networks and meet colleagues.
The theme of this year’s seminar is «The Significance of Independent Voices». In a profession undergoing constant change, freelance journalists are becoming ever more important on one hand, but put under even greater economic pressure, on the other. This is a threat to democracy, because, when commercial interests control free speech, who will be the watchdog of these commercial forces – and of politicians?
During the seminar we will investigate how we, as freelancers, can adapt to the new reality of our working life, by learning new working methods and new tools, and how we can perform our role as independent voices in a profession under increasing pressure.
EFJ Director Renate Schroeder will be present.
