OSCE Expert Workshop “Freedom of Expression on the Internet and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization that Lead to Terrorism”

The workshop is jointly organized by the OSCE Transnational Threats Department, the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, and the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aim of the meeting is to discuss the challenges counter-extremism measures may have to freedom of expression on the Internet, share best practices and stimulate to a human rights’ compliant approach based on the rule of law and democratic values. The workshop will discuss issues such as content regulation and blocking policies, role of social media networks and the use of surveillance powers. The expert workshop is a follow-up event to the workshop “Media freedom and responsibilities in the context of counter-terrorism policies” organized by TNTD and RFOM in Bucharest 7-8 October 2015.
