Ambassador Anders Ahnlid and the Swedish Publishers’ Association Utgivarna invites us to an afternoon discussion on Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Press.
The Swedish Freedom of the Press Act, established in 1766, celebrates its 250th anniversary this year. Protection of journalistic freedom, as established in the Freedom of the Press Act, Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression and the principle of public access to official records are proud achievements, resting on democratic principles, traditions and respect for diversity.
Today, freedom of expression and freedom of the press are being questioned in the European Union as well as globally, with press freedom having declined to its lowest point in 12 years in 2015.
