{"id":1522,"date":"2014-12-08T17:05:21","date_gmt":"2014-12-08T16:05:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/europeanjournalists.org\/?p=1522"},"modified":"2014-12-08T17:05:21","modified_gmt":"2014-12-08T16:05:21","slug":"russian-authorities-evict-independent-tv-channel-from-premises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/europeanjournalists.org\/fr\/2014\/12\/08\/russian-authorities-evict-independent-tv-channel-from-premises\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian authorities evict independent TV channel from premises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) and the Russian Union of Journalists \u00a0(RUJ) today have condemned the Russian authorities\u00a0for forcing the independent TV channel,\u00a0<em>TV Dozhd<\/em>, out from its premises in Moscow.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to the EFJ affiliate, RUJ, this is the second time in a few months that<em>TV Dozhd<\/em>\u00a0has been evicted from its premises due to its critical reporting on the authorities and political figures.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year,\u00a0<em>TV Dozhd\u00a0<\/em>was forced off the air when it was dropped from the schedules of several Russian cable TV services. It is considered as the last independent voice broadcasting on a public frequency in Russia.<br \/>\n<em>\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cWe face attempts of Russian authorities and businesses to limit media diversity,\u00a0independent media and journalists in Russia. TV Dozhd is one of the many victims.\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Nadezda Azhgikhina, the EFJ Vice-President and RUJ International\u00a0Secretary<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nTV2, another independent TV channel will face closure at the end of this year.<br \/>\n<em><br \/>\n\u201cWe hope that common sense will win and this practice will end,\u201d added Azhgikhina.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The EFJ has called on the Russian authorities\u00a0to respect international standards on freedom of expression and information.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe authorities\u00a0must stop their ongoing\u00a0attacks on journalists and independent media now,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Ricardo\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em><strong>Guti\u00e9rrez, EFJ General Secretary<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Azhgikhina and other RUJ representatives will meet with Natalia Sindeeva, the chief editor of\u00a0<em>TV Dozhd\u00a0<\/em>to discuss ways to continue its broadcasts and counter the attack on media.
