The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) will hold its annual meeting in Prishtina, Kosovo. Around 100 journalists and trade union representatives from 45 European countries are expected to meet on 23-24 May 2024.

Prishtina was chosen as the host city of the upcoming congress of the EFJ, representing 320,000 journalists in Europe. Co-organised by the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK), the assembly will be held in Modelarium, University of Prishtina.

“It is a historic milestone for Kosovo to host this important annual event. It comes at a time when the media freedom index in the country has fallen significantly, and our colleagues and members have been subjected to attacks, including physical ones. It is a sign of solidarity for our European fellows, who will be able to meet here 18 Ukrainian journalists, sheltered with the “Journalists in Residence Program“. We look forward to welcoming everyone in Prishtina,” said the President of the AGK board, Xhemajl Rexha.

Under the theme, “Journalism in times of war” the EFJ Congress will provide a space for discussions on conflict reporting during a roundtable with Tim Dawson, IFJ Deputy General Secretary, Florent Duplouy, lawyer, CoE Platform to Promote the Protection of Journalism, Wade Goddard, photojournalist, War Photo Limited and Sergiy Tomilenko, President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). Affiliates will be invited to join a photo action in solidarity with Belarusian journalists in prisons and Ukrainian journalists in Russian captivity. The issue of Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) will also be discussed in a final session.
