We are surrounded by new technologies. Every day, we buy, sell, study or work online. These technologies are part of our environment; they affect sectors as diverse as health, education, culture, transport, industry, research and development. They do not recognise borders. But there are still many obstacles in the European digital market. Today, only 15% of consumers shop online across borders in the EU; only 7% of small and medium-sized businesses sell abroad.
As part of the DSM strategy for overcoming these borders, the Commission has now presented half of its proposals to the European Parliament and the Council of EU Ministers. Others will follow in the autumn and later this year.
All these projects will be open for discussion with Vice-President Ansip.
