Today, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) and the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate (PJS) launched an appeal for donations from European journalists to support their colleagues in Gaza, who are facing an unprecedented level of forced starvation.

The campaign, called ‘From Journalist to Journalist’, was launched to all the organisations representing journalists in Europe by EFJ President Maja Sever and PJS President Nasser Abu Bakr.

“I thank European journalists’ organisations for their efforts to convince their governments to take concrete action to put an end to the forced starvation in Gaza and the war crimes and crimes against humanity targeting civilians, particularly Palestinian journalists,” said Maja Sever. “We cannot simply offer words of support to our colleagues in Gaza. We call on all journalists in Europe who are able to do so to make a donation via the IFJ Safety Fund, which will ensure that the funds raised are used in the most effective and secure way possible.”

“This money will help to alleviate the famine and help the families of Palestinian journalists to obtain the minimum necessary food, milk and flour. Journalists in Gaza are experiencing a humanitarian tragedy without precedent in history,” added Nasser Abu Bakr.

In practice, journalists or anyone else wishing to make a donation can either make a payment to the IFJ Safety Fund:

  • Name of the Bank: BNP Paribas Fortis
  • BIC: GEBABEBB
  • IBAN: BE64 2100 7857 0052
  • Name: AISBL Federation Internationale des journalistes
  • Communication: do not mention “Gaza” (bank’s algorithms systematically block payments in that case), but “PJS Safety Fund”.

Or use the IFJ Donorboxhttps://donorbox.org/donation-to-the-ifj-safety-fund
(please write “PJS Safety Fund” in the “Write us a comment” box)

According to the IFJ’s count, at least 174 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza, since the war began. “Israel is now starving Gazan journalists into silence,” said EFJ General Secretary Ricardo Gutiérrez. “The European Union and European governments must act now: protect these journalists, feed them and allow them to recover, while international journalists must finally be allowed access to Gaza to help them document the ongoing genocide”.

The EFJ thanks its affiliates in advance for passing on the call for donations to their members throughout Europe.
