Within its strategy of better defending self-employed workers in terms of rights, wages and social protection, the ETUC is engaged in the project "New trade union strategies for new forms of employment". From September 6 to 7, the second workshop in the framework of the mentioned project will bring together 30 tradeunionists from all over Europe to Paris with the aim of studying innovative ways to guarantee a better social protection to said category of workers. Fake news on digital media has become a potent means of manipulating political discourse around the world. Social media provides a platform for the free, and largely unregulated, widespread dissemination of fake news stories. Furthermore, it enables content creators to generate revenue from advertising. The parliamentary group of social democrats in the European Parliament is organising a conference to tackle political and legal challenges linked to fake news as well as different responses to the phenomena from several EU Member States and the European Commission.
