The Council of Europe, in cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus, is preparing a Conference of Ministers Responsible for Media and Information Society on ‘Artificial intelligence – Intelligent politics: Challenges and opportunities for media and democracy’ (28-29 May 2020, Nicosia, Cyprus). This Ministerial Conference will address the following main subjects: impacts of AI-powered technologies on freedom of expression; challenges stemming from the changing media and information environment; and safety of journalists. The programme of the event will be made available on the Conference website soon. Conference call about the situation of platform and gig workers

DG Competition organized this conference call to understand the role that collective organisation, representation and bargaining may play in an improvement of the situation of platform workers as well as other types of gig workers, that is to say workers who are paid for the “gigs” they do, e.g. delivering food through an online platform or writing an article for a journal.
