2025 Candidate for SC Member: Allan Boye Thulstrup
Who I am
My name is Allan Boye Thulstrup, and I have been part of the EFJ Steering Committee since 2022. After four years as vice president of the Danish Union of Journalists I was recently elected as president of the Union, which is the only union for media workers in Denmark. Before holding elected office, I, among other things, worked as a journalist covering local and national politics.
Why I am standing
For the past three years in the SC we have worked on several important issues, and I consider the most important result to be our work on EMFA, AI, Anti-Slapp, freelance rights and journalists’ safety. For the Danish Union, the EFJ is an invaluable connection to the lawmakers in Brussels, and it is my aim to ensure, that it will be the same for other unions. We still have a lot to teach each other, and effective organizing and capacity building has never been more important for unions. I believe the EFJ can play a critical role in that process.
My priorities for the EFJ
The coming years will be perilous for journalists all over Europe, and we need to stand together in solidarity to stand up against the many threats. But there is also hope, and in many countries, there is a rising understanding of the importance of journalism as democratic infrastructure. We must continue our work to enlighten both lawmakers and the public on the importance of independent journalism.
