MEP Paulo Rangel, Vice-Chairman of the EPP Group, and the Institute for Political Studies of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in association with Europaeum are organising a seminar on “Policy Making at EU Level”, taking place at the European Parliament, Brussels, between March 19th and March 21th. Conference “Is perception of migrants shaping mainstream policies in Europe?”

The EFJ GS Ricardo Gutiérrez will participate to a panel discussion titled 'Stigmatization of migrants in Europe', at the European Parliament, in the framework presentation of the research "New Forms of Citizenship in Migration Era". The panel will discuss this phenomenon with representatives of policy makers, media and NGOs from Brussels. Adopted recommendations and conclusions will be incorporated into a report “New policy ideas combating stigmatization of migrants in Europe” providing fresh ideas on how political actors could address this through their daily work, especially in the light of European elections in 2019. While it is not unique to Turkey or this period in time, polarization erodes the platform for a pluralistic democracy and paves the way for populist and majoritarian politics in Turkey. A recent survey supported by GMF highlights how social distance, perceived moral superiority, and political intolerance polarize Turkish society along partisan lines.
