The EFJ staff will meet Tommaso Chiamparino, EU Coordinator on combating anti-Muslim hatred. As the Coordinator's main mandate is to address anti-Muslim hate speech, hate crime and discrimination, the key stakeholders are Muslim, and other organisations which deal with anti-racism and non-discrimination policy at European and national level.
The aim of the delegation visit is to inform stakeholders in Brussels about the current situation in Turkey and Russia and to exchange about the shrinking spaces for journalists. Die CDU-Politikerin aus Aachen ist in diesem Sommer zur neuen Vorsitzenden des Ausschusses für Kultur und Bildung bei der EU gewählt worden. Dieser Ausschuss des EU-Parlaments ist auch für Medien-, Informations- und Kommunikationspolitik zuständig. Ich hatte Kontakt zu ihr, sie steht uns für ein Gespräch gern zur Verfügung. Der genaue Ort muss noch festgelegt werden. Wir könnten das Treffen mit ihr mit einer Sitzung unserer Kommission verbinden.
